The wood industry has a special and strategic importance for the Republic of Srpska, since Srpska has a significant raw material base of the highest quality and has a 150-year-long tradition in wood processing. Precisely because of that, 60% of the total production is exported to a very demanding world market and makes the industry in which the largest foreign trade surplus is realized. The wood industry participates in the total achieved industrial production of the Republic of Srpska with almost 10%, and in the processing industry with about 17%. It employs about one-fifth of the total number of workers employed in the processing industry.

Absolute forest coverage of 50%, excellent forest growth potential, favourable geographical location and low transport costs have enabled this sector to have a significant presence on the foreign market.

ICT Sector

The ICT sector achieves the fastest growth in exports, revenue growth and the number of employees.

The ICT industry, with young educated professionals and an extensive network of companies and resources, is one of the most promising industries in the Republic of Srpska and is a strategic priority of the Government of Republic of Srpska.

There are 350 companies from the information and communication technology sector operating in the Republic of Srpska. Companies from the IT industry in the Republic of Srpska are mainly oriented towards large global corporations and export their services. The advantages of the Republic of Srpska in this area are quality staff who have the knowledge and competencies to respond to challenging tasks. Revenues in this area are 50% above the RS average.

Food processing
industry

According to the availability of agricultural land, the Republic of Srpska belongs to the very top of Europe (0.9 ha per capita), which is significantly higher than the world average (0.24 ha per capita). Fertile soil, clean water sources and unpolluted air form a good basis for organic food production. The existence of geothermal waters on over 50% of agricultural land enables investments in glass and plastic greenhouse production. Thanks to the favourable geographical position, climate and different geological conditions, the biodiversity of medicinal and aromatic plants in the RS is very rich.

Tourism

The Republic of Srpska is a land of nature, adventure, rich cultural heritage, and incredible gastronomy. All this provides great opportunities for investment in tourism. The tourism in the Republic of Srpska is one of the most promising industries. The Republic of Srpska records a continuous increase in tourist traffic, i.e. the number of achieved tourist arrivals and overnight stays. Thus, in 2022, there was an increase in tourist arrivals by 49,1% and tourist overnight stays by 38,5% compared to 2021.

Metal and electrical industry

A constantly growing sector with the biggest exporters and partners of the world-famous brands.

The metal and electrical industry is expanding, and at the same time it is a sector in which the largest exporters in the Republic of Srpska operate, constantly working on the modernisation of the technological process, which makes them reliable partners of the world-famous companies. Together with available brownfield sites, reliable local partners and a significant raw material base, this sector offers incredible investment opportunities.

The Republic of Srpska has a significant raw material base for this sector such as metal and mineral raw materials (iron ore, bauxite, lead and zinc) and electricity.
